Esports · Age of Empires
Age of Empires betting is almost all Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, played mostly 1v1 in long series where each game is a new map and a new civilisation pick. Bookmakers offer match winner, game handicap, total games and outrights on the big events such as Red Bull Wololo.
This page explains those markets, shows why a long series favours the stronger player more than a short one, and lists the bookmakers ranked for Age of Empires on this site. Odds here are examples.
Red Bull Wololo: Londinium: GosuGamers and Team Vitality. Margin from the example odds on this page.
Short answer
You bet on a 1v1 series, single games or the event winner. Series are long, and length helps the favourite: a player who wins 60% of games takes a best of seven 71% of the time, against 60% in a single game. Short favourites in long series are rarely value; game handicaps are where prices move.
A player who wins 60% of games wins a best of seven 71.0% of the time.
The same player wins a best of five 68.3% of the time.
Hera beat Liereyy 5–3 in the Red Bull Wololo: Londinium grand final.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, the version played in pro events, came out on 14 November 2019.

How it works
Group games can be short; playoffs and finals often run to best of seven or longer.
Open land maps and water or closed maps favour different players. Map drafts decide much of a series.
Match winner, game handicap (for example −2.5 games), total games, or the event outright.
AoE has fewer bookmakers than CS2, so prices differ more. Compare and set a limit first.
Markets Example odds
The common AoE2 markets, what they pay for and what they cost. Example odds for a best of seven.
Match winner is the cheapest AoE market in this example. Game handicaps and correct scores spread the same chance over more outcomes and cost more.
| Market | You bet on | Example odds | Margin | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Match winner | Who wins the series. | 1.40 / 2.85 | 6.1% | the lowest margin here. |
| Game handicap −1.5 | The favourite must win by two games or more, for example 4–2. | 1.85 / 1.90 | 6.3% | turns a short favourite into an even-money bet. |
| Total games | Over or under 5.5 games in a best of seven. | 1.80 / 1.95 | 6.4% | a bet on how close the series is. |
| Game 1 winner | Who wins the first game only. | 1.55 / 2.35 | 6.6% | one map and one civ pick: more upsets than the series. |
| Event winner | Who wins the tournament. | [many outcomes] | [many outcomes] | the highest margin of the AoE markets. |
