The updated Overwatch Collegiate program kicks off this fall, featuring exciting changes including the introduction of a Varsity division and revamped competitive structures. Registration opens August 5th, setting the stage for a season that balances strategic gameplay with significant scholarship opportunities.
The program now offers two divisions: Open and Varsity. The Open division welcomes eligible institutions across the US and Canada and allows multiple teams per school. The Varsity division, developed in partnership with NACE, imposes stricter eligibility standards requiring dedicated facilities and oversight to ensure a high level of competition. Registration deadlines differ by division, with Varsity Premier teams needing to register by September 2nd and National Open teams by September 22nd.
The Fall Homecoming season, starting in September, is exclusive to Varsity Premier teams. National Open play begins in October with a Swiss stage and a 16-team playoff offering a $28,000 prize pool. The Spring Championship culminates in a LAN finals event boasting a $100,000 scholarship prize pool, underscoring the programās commitment to rewarding top collegiate talent.
With a total of $42,000 in scholarships for the Fall season and a substantial $100,000 pool in the Spring finals, the program offers meaningful rewards that incentivize excellence. This elevates collegiate Overwatch to new competitive heights, paralleling the intensity and strategic depth seen in leading esports tournaments.
Strict varsity eligibility criteria ensure that participating schools are well-equipped and committed to esports excellence. Institutions and players interested in varsity participation can express their intent via online forms, facilitating a well-organized and competitive collegiate esports environment.
