Digimon the Movie 02 “The Beginning” is set to premiere in cinemas on November 8th and 9th for the Dub and Sub versions respectively. This new installment continues the story from the second season of the anime, featuring the main cast after a time skip from the series finale.
To coincide with the movie premiere, the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG) will be releasing promo cards for each of the main cast and their partner Digimon in rookie form. These promo cards will have limited distribution in the US, with the first 50 attendees to the screenings receiving a pack containing 3 cards from a pool of 14.
The promo pack will be launched alongside the Demo Deck Imperialdramon, which includes an altered artwork promo featuring Davis, Veemon, Ukkomon, and Lui. However, it's worth noting that the Imperialdramon Dragon Mode ACE, unique to the demo deck, will not be included in the Digimon the Movie 02’s theatre pack.
Unfortunately, there is no information available at this time regarding the planned release of the theatre set for territories outside the US.
The new tamers shown in the movie have special abilities that allow them to play their partner Digimon for free from their hand or evolve their Digimon into the canon evolution without paying the cost. Additionally, they gain 1 memory at the start of the main phase if they have a [Free] type. Since all the 02 cast and their evolutions are [Free] type, this criteria will be met frequently.
Most of the Rookies in the movie also have the ability to search the top 3 cards of their respective tamer and a 2 color card. However, Patamon is an exception and instead searches the security. These searchers also have inherited effects to DNA Digivolve at the end of the turn.
It is likely that we will see new Champion Digimon cards and DNA Digivolution Digimon in the future, as hinted by the presence of Silphymon, Shakkoumon, and Imperialdramon in the movie trailers.
