Key points
-
$0
Channel points cannot be bought out or sold for money. A prediction costs you nothing but points.
-
1.60
If 50,000 points back a win and 30,000 a loss, each winning point returns 1.6 points: implied odds of 1.60.
-
62.5%
That split implies a 62.5% chance for the favourite. Compare it with a bookmaker's price to see how far fans lean.
-
Oct 2022
Twitch banned streams of unlicensed slots, roulette and dice sites from 18 October 2022; sports betting streams remained allowed.
How Twitch Predictions work
- Earn channel points Viewers collect points by watching a channel that has channel points turned on (Partners and Affiliates).
- The streamer opens a prediction They set a question, the outcomes and a time window, for example "Who wins map 2?".
- Viewers stake points Each viewer picks an outcome and stakes points before the window closes.
- The streamer resolves it Winners share the losing side's points in proportion to their stakes; if nothing is resolved, points are refunded.
The pool maths: predictions as a market
Example prediction: "Does Team A win the match?"
The pool sets the payout, with no margin taken. Odds come purely from how viewers split their points.
| Outcome | Points staked | Return per point | Implied chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | 50,000 | 1.60 | 62.5% |
| No | 30,000 | 2.67 | 37.5% |
| Total | 80,000 | 100% |
Example calculation: return per point = total pool / points on that outcome.
What predictions and chat can and cannot tell you
| Useful | Misleading |
|---|---|
| How strongly fans lean toward a popular team | Whether that team will actually win |
| Real-time reactions to roster or lineup news on stream | Rumours and claims in chat without a source |
| Co-streamer and analyst commentary on drafts and vetoes | Calls from accounts that profit from your bets |
Sentiment matters because bookmakers sometimes shade odds toward heavily backed popular teams. When fans pile onto one side, the other side can be the better price. Use predictions as a mood reading, then do your own estimate.
Twitch, gambling streams and safety
In September 2022 Twitch announced a ban on streaming slots, roulette and dice games from sites not licensed in the US or other jurisdictions with sufficient consumer protection, effective 18 October 2022. Sports betting, fantasy sports and poker streams stayed allowed. Esports fans still meet betting promotions on stream, so check that any site a streamer promotes is licensed where you live, and ignore links in chat.
Frequently asked questions
Can you bet real money on Twitch Predictions?
No. Predictions use channel points, which have no monetary value and cannot be sold or traded.
How are prediction payouts calculated?
Winners split the total pool in proportion to their stakes. With 50,000 points on one side and 30,000 on the other, each winning point on the larger side returns 1.6 points.
Do all channels offer predictions?
Only channels with channel points, which means Partners and Affiliates, and only when the streamer chooses to run one.
Are Twitch predictions accurate?
They show what viewers believe, and viewers tend to favour popular teams. Treat them as a sentiment reading, not a forecast.
Can Twitch chat mislead betting decisions?
Yes. Chat mixes rumours, fandom and promotions. Check news at the source and make your own estimate.
Do Twitch predictions move bookmaker odds?
Not directly. Bookmakers set odds from their own models and the money they take, though heavy public backing of a popular team can be reflected in prices.
