There is no single best esports team: organisations such as Team Liquid or Team Spirit field separate rosters in several games, and each is rated in its own game. For betting, what counts is the current roster's form on the current patch, not the name on the jersey.
This guide shows what to check before backing a team, and why famous records such as OG's back-to-back wins at The International in 2018 and 2019 say little about a roster today.
Short answer
Look at the current five players, results in the last two or three months on the current patch, win rates per map, and the format of the next match. A team's history and prize money tell you about past rosters; the odds already include its reputation.
Checks
Compare the current lineup with the one that earned the results. A new player, a stand-in or a coach change resets much of the record.
Use results since the last major game update. Older results were played with a different meta.
In shooters, check win rates per map and which maps each team bans. A team at 60% overall may be 75% on its own pick and 45% on the opponent's.
A best-of-one group game gives the weaker team more chances than a best-of-five final. Some teams rest players or try new strategies when a result does not matter.
Convert the odds to a chance (1 ÷ odds) and bet only if your estimate is higher. A famous team is often priced shorter than its form deserves.
Patterns & exceptions
What it means: the top ten earners are all Dota 2 players, because of The International's prize pools; earnings measure past titles, not current form.
What it means: a team that wins 60% of maps still loses a third of best-of-threes.
