Riot Games is introducing several support changes in Patch 14.4 for League of Legends. These changes aim to address the dominance of certain champions in the support role, particularly Maokai, who has been the top pick for three patches.
Maokai has been an incredibly strong champion, boasting a win rate of 54 percent in Platinum ranks and higher. Despite previous attempts to nerf him in Patch 14.3, Maokai has continued to perform exceptionally well. Riot Games hopes that the upcoming changes will finally bring him in line with other champions.
In addition to Maokai, other support champions will also receive changes in Patch 14.4. Bard, who currently has a dominant win rate, will be nerfed to balance his performance. On the other hand, Thresh, Soraka, and Lulu will receive buffs to improve their win rates, which are currently below 50 percent.
Riot Games will also be modifying the new starter support item in Patch 14.4. The first and second stack charges will activate earlier in the game, encouraging more players to choose the opening support item. This change will also enhance melee wave dynamics in the early minutes of the game.
Patch 14.4 is scheduled to be released on Thursday, Feb. 22.
